Broken shock mount...again

Ok, so I broke my shock mount again. I rewelded the mounts back together a few months ago but noticed one of them snapped again when I walked outside this morning. I guess I need a long term solution to this. Has anyone ever used the aftermarket mounts that M.O.R.E. sells? Any other better options out there?

Thanks...zim

did you clean the serface really well b4 you welded also did you clean off all the paint??...last what type of welder did you use aps??

im gonna guess you cleaned it and preped it well...if your weldier is lacking power what i would do is pretty much weld it to hold then head to a shop and get them to finish it...id buy a new mount tho then do this start fresh

I used an arc welder from where I work...its a monster...i don't think it was the welder that caused the problem. The brackets actually cracked in half so it wasn't an issue of them breaking off the axle. So, I was actually trying to weld the brackets back together...I'm guessing thats why it failed again. And yes, I wire wheeled and grinded the crap out of the brackets before I welded them. Its kinda strange...it looks like the bracket actually buckled before it broke...almost like the shock didn't travel down far enough and bent the bracket to compensate.

Is the travel of the shocks long enough? Or maybe too long? Sounds like the shock maybe too long and basicaly pushing the shock mount off on full compresion or visa versa. If you jack the axle all the way up with the shock disconnected will the shock collapse enough to fit? Or when the body is jacked up to unweight the axle is the shock long enough eye to eye? Just a thought.

Thanks for the replies...Basically what I was looking for. The shocks are the ones that came with my lift. I will have to investigate further once I get her jacked up. If anything, I think they might be too short based on the way the brackets buckled. I will try to post some pics tomorrow to better illustrate what I'm talking about. I'll probably end up going with the MORE's. I also saw a post from a few years back where you can use rear CJ spring plates that have the shock mount stud on it (similar to the spring plate for the front leaf packs on the yj) They supposedly line up for the most part with the stock mounts on the axle.

It looks like your shocks aren't long enough at full extension. They're acting as limiting straps and ripping the mounts off. Are they hitting the axle tube? See any dents in the shocks?
