Broken exhaust manifold stud

My buddy has the four screamin squirrels in his 95. He broke the exhaust manifold stud at the rear of the engine. I told him I would come over on Saturday and help him with it.

Any suggestions on extracting this broken stud? I think the brake assist has to come off and the master cylinder.

Any other suggestions?

None of that needs to come off.

Does he have the manifold and intake off already?? IF so, there should be plenty of room towork.

Do you know if the stud is flush or sticking out a bit???

Eww. Umm, weld a nut to it and the heat from welding will loosen it at the same time.

Easy outs: drill a hole in the center then use the easy out.

Worst case scenerio, you have to drill it out and retap.

Thanks Rusty. Is there enough room to drill without taking off the stuff I mentioned?

I have used this method before. I like to first weld the center of a washer over the broken stud and then weld a nut to the stud. The heat will help to free up the bolt as well. Good luck and take some pics of the repair.
