Brand new bouncy shocks
Hey all--

Had my '94 YJ for 15 years. Was starting to get to where I could feel every pebble or penny I rolled over so I changed my shocks out (something I don't think had ever been done--we sure hadn't) for a set of Rancho RS5000s. I do a *little* off-roading, but most of the travel is on pavement and was told the RS5K was a good all-purpose set.
The issue: now, if I go over the slightest bump, I get a 2x-3x bounce. Also, if I hit a bump or a dip, i can hear a "thump" and the bump of whatever I ran over, no matter how small. Doesn't seem to be any shock absorption going on at all. I hate to say it, but it seems even worse than the stocks I pulled out.
There's no sway at all when I turn a corner. Just a lack of absorption and excessive bounce. Any ideas?

Get on your bumper, then bounce up and down, jump off. If you car/Yj bounces any more than one up Maybe slightly down a bit depending on your weight then stops.

Your shocks are bad.

its time to rebuild your bushings. pull your springs off and rework everything until the shackle and spring-eye move freely. you should be able to torque them to factory specs and still move them by hand.

and when you do torque them be sure its on the ground...

What kind of suspension do you have? Stock?

Dumb question but did you install them correctly?
I don't think they can go upside down anymore but if you dented them on installation you could have messed them up... or they are bad out of the box. It happens.

The time now is 08:41 AM.
