the little rod on the bottom needs to be fully threaded into itself to put the drum back on. then, you get a screwdriver and stick it in the little hole on the back cover bottom and adjust the rod till the shoes are just barely dragging when you turn the drum.

when you go for a drive, you are going to be amazed at how your brakes feel. mine were a night and day difference

What he is saying is that after you install the brakes you need to adjust them. If not your pedal will not feel right. Adjust your brakes until they just start to rub. From then on your self adjusters will keep them adjusted.

If the screwdriver does not work there is a brake adjustment tool that only cost a couple dollars. It makes the job much easier.

Thanks so much everyone. The jeep works great.

On an unrelated issue, now I have a leaking hose in the engine compartment.
Gotta love old jeeps
