bouncy/vibration

anybody know what this means? when i'm driving in 3rd or 4th gear -between 30mph and 40mph, my jeep sometimes will get shaky/bouncy- you can feel it in the steering wheel and you can hear it in the engine, but it only does it sometimes.

thanks for the help!

Usually a bounce, or shake that happens at a certain speed is coming from something spinning. The 1st thing to do is the easiest, have your tires balanced. The next time it happens, reach the speed that it shakes, and put your Jeep in neutral to rule out anytthing in the engine. If you go wheelin alot, your driveshaft could have taken a hit.

Hey guys! Definately check your drive shaft! It could have taken a hit, or a strap or u-joint could be loose or broken. (you do lube your joints after each off road trip don't you?) If water or mud is in the u-joints for any period of time, the joint can corrode from the inside out! Also check the motor mounts, if one is cracked or the trans mount is cracked, it can cause all kinds of weird vibrations. If you see any shiny spots on the drive shaft, or missing balance weights have the shaft re-balanced. Did you put a lift kit in lately? If so, you may have a severe drive shaft angle, and will need to lower the transfer case to make the angle closer to stock. Just my 2 cents! STEVE

My truck had a nasty vibration as well, but only at certain speeds. After many dollars spent trying to find the answer I pulled the drive shaft and had it checked .. guess what .. the shaft was out of balance and caused me all my headaches.
