A head swap on these engines is very simple. Grab a buddy with some mechanical ability, tools a torque wrench and you can do the swap in a day. Don't forget to upgrade to a Motorcraft MC2150 cab for best performance, again found in the JY on mid 80's ford cars n trucks.
Snag a head from a Junkyard Cherokee drop it off at your local machine shop after filling the extra holes with JB weld if needed. There are plenty of other write-up's out there.

Dwayne, I have a question for you. I was looking into the head swap myself. I put on a MC2100 about a year ago and was wondering if I could use it on the 4.0 head swap??? Sorry didn't mean to hi jack your thread.

The 4.2 intake can fit on the 4.0 head with a small mod.
Or you could go this route a modified 99 n up intake with a carb

There is a whole sequence of pic in my gallery a how to in pic form.

Mechanical ability tools? Do you mean mechanical ability and tools? Where would I find a MC2100?

I just may have a MC2150 here that I would sell after it gets a fresh rebuild.

I am pretty sure any carb will work as long as it is 400cfm or smaller (within reason)
