I have found that if a captive nut spins sometimes you can drill a small hole through the sheet metal and through the "nut". You can then insert a small metal rod, I use either a screw or a drill bit.

Giving you the ability to hold the nut while you remove the bolt. Once the bolt is removed I usually run a self tapping screw through the hole to secure the captive nut.

otherwise im gonna bite the bullet and start drilling the rest. gotta pick up a new can of pb first. yj owners know you should always have an extra in stock

Thanks for the write up. ill post back with results

That's because it's not a "nut" at all. It is a threaded plate held captive by a sheetmetal cage.

Great thread guys. I started on my bl install over the weekend, tried two mounts and both spun the captive nuts. I was actually going to abandon the whole bl install until I read this thread. Thanks for the tips.

You can use a hole saw & then dig it out from the top, like in the pics in post 22.

3" blocks netted me 2" BL with my 1 1/2" shackles and 1" flare trim.
Essentially a Poor man's 4.5" lift for 33's.
No rubbing and nothing bad with the ride happened instead I noticed it a Bit Tighter.
If anyone is considering doing a body lift this way I caution you as it IS permanent for the most part.
I don't plan on changing my stuff anytime soon so it worked
well for me.

Thought I would add to this thread in case anyone is already where I was, Stuck.
do you have any photos/specs of the blocks you made, or photos of them installed?

I just used this kit.. recommend it...

also did the "thru the floor board" access to get to the broken nuts/bolts.

replaced mine with flat bar and welded nuts...

Also most of my frame mounts had rotted thru the diameter of the bodymount, so I had to fill them with plate to create a new landing point for the body mounts...

If you use a 2 1/2" hole saw you can access the rear captive nuts, (go thru the wall, not the bottom) remove them and replace with new..
