Seems there is homemade from A/C compressors or whole bolt in systems. The decision maker will be ease of installation and $$$. As for what system is better yo9u may get a few hits. It will take up any extra space in the engine bay or some parts like the tank may be mounted inside the tub. So space considerations are in the game. I saw a cherokee this weekend with all his inside the vehicle where the backseat used to be. He's a hardcore wheeler and loves the air for his lockers. Good luck and iif you do it post some pics it is on the long list for me. Sorry about messing with your thread it was just there.

That's pretty open ended..... I mean there are several ways to do an OBA system, electric compressors, engine driven compressors like a York or a Sanden compressor, the Power Tank type tanks, etc....

Here's what I did, http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/9...-build-598268/

I've changed up a couple of things since the original build but it's essentially the same.

One method for converting the Sanden to greasable. You can buy this already done from Endless Air or do this mod for CHEAP.

as others have pointed out it can be sophisticated or simple, your choice.

IMHO
Kilby has set the standard in commercially available engine driven OBA. I have one and am very happy with it.

For electric pumps the new Viair systems are well designed.

But having said this.
You can make your own with a bit of effort. Plenty of information out there.

I have a 10lb Ultimate Air CO2 tank that I use. It's fast, lasts several trips between fill ups and is easy to use. I also carry a small compressor just in case. Granted this is in my JK, but there are no modifications needed to move it to the YJ.

A full system with tank is nice, but can cost a lot more and if you use the air in the tank, then you just have a compressor, so figured I'd go with CO2 and have not been dissapointed.
