Blower Motor Resistor - 87 YJ

Hello all,

Blower motor resistor died, have another one on the way- gonna be about a week before I get it. Meanwhile, there is a winter storm warning in affect.

I was told to bypass it, how would be the way to do this. I will take it being either Off or full on. Either way- I need the heat. Can someone please help me out?

All wiring is still stock, so color codes will be relevant.

Thanks!

Someone else chime in if you have a response, but in my experience when the blower resistor goes out, you end up with single speed blower which works only on High.

Is there anything else in your system that could be causing a problem, like fuse etc?

x2. You should be able to just leave the old resistor installed and it should default to high speed until you get the new one. If that is not happening then you need to see what else is bad.

If your resistor has totally died (no power) you can pull the harness from the toggle/reisitor and make a jumper.

I just got my new resistor myself. It's sitting on my dining room table.

Well I called pep-boys to check on my resister and well if your in the Rochester area think twice about ordering parts from them.. I called to find out that the order had been canceled last week by the vendor, no call to me from pepboys, so they said that they would find it locally and call me back in a few hours, and of course I did not get a callback. Hopefully when i call they will have good news (not holding my breathe)

I was just looking at the 1993 wiring diagram for the blower circuit.
Assuming the 89 is the same the fan ought to work on the High setting with or without the resistor.
The resistor only provides power for the Low and Medium speed settings.

If the fan isn't working on High then it may not be the resistor.
Could be Fuze 12 25 amps, the blower switch itself, the motor or the vent switch in the heater control panel.
The vent switch kill the fan when the controls are set to Vent mode.

National back order? Take a look around on line. Napa JC Whitney, etc. They are a real common part and should be easy to come by.

I thought they would be (everywhere, widely available). Autozone had them on their site a week or so ago, now they don't. I'll check with NAPA...

Lord. If I lived in Rochester I'd put just about anything in there to make it thru the winter with most of my toes intact.

Sorry for bringing this from the dead but I'm baffled at the moment. My heater for a while only worked on high. Then out of no where I had medium and high. Now I have jack Crap. Anyway I can here it try for a second but get nothing. Do I need a new blower motor?
