Blinker comes on when I push on the brakes.

I have a 1990 JEEP YJ. When I press on the brakes the right front turn signal light comes on. Has anyone or everyone had this problem? What is the fix for this problem. I have tried a new ground wire and a new turn signal switch but the right front light still comes on when the brake lights come on.

Does this only happen with the lights on?
Did you check the socket for the side front marker light?

The same problem just started for me last night! I installed a new winch but that was a direct hook up to the battery. WTF?

Do your turn signals work normally?

I would check the bulbs and connection/ground wires to all the right side lights. INCLUDING the rear tail light. You would be surprised as to what those stupid tail light housings can do to your electrical system. The bolts that mount the housing to the tub ARE the ground.

Also, the rear tail light bulb is a dual filament bulb that is for the brake lights and turn signal. You could have a crossed fillament/bad bulb in the rear.

That's exactly where I was going to. Any short in the flashers or bulbs can do wonders on your lighting systems. I believe if the bulb is crossed your flasher doesn't work on that side.

All of my lights are working normally. They flash when I turn on the turn signals. They come on when I turn on the clearance lights and they are on when I turn on the headlights. The blinker light does come on when the other lights are on. All of my turn signals (front and rear) are working properly. It is just acting like a brake light on the front when I press on the brakes. I checked the socket for the bulb and it seems fine. I ran a new ground wire from the back of the light socket to a known good ground and I still have the same problem. I will check out the rear tail light housing's tomorrow.

Left Directional Stays on

I have a 90 YJ and my left directional just stays on when I signal left turn. I guess I'll change the bulbs and check the wires.

That is your flasher gone bad. Up on the top of the under dash fuse block.

my old xj had this problem and it happened to be a bad bulb in the rear tail lights. It was was i just changed a week before to, so if you put in bulb lately just double check it. Rear blown rear bulbs can cause the dash lights and turn signals to flash on when you hit the brakes.

Here is what I have done so far.

I have replaced ALL the bulbs, front and rear.
I have replaced both flashers, turn signal and emergency.
I have replaced the turn signal switch. That fixed my horn that wasn't working.
I have run new ground wires to the rear tail lights.
I have run a new ground wire to the front blinker that is giving me problems.

So far nothing has changed. My right front blinker still comes on when I hit the brake pedal. All my lights are working correctly except for the problem with the right front blinker coming on when I hit the brakes. Any other ideas?

Have you inspected the condition of the front side marker light socket?

It's because you failed to put corner protection on your jeep and bashing the corner has mashed your wires together in the corner. Reach up in the corner and check it out. Also, those square, factory tail lights corrode easily. I'm batting you bashed the wires. Based on past experience.

Today I inspected the condition of both side marker sockets. They both appear to be in good condition and they both work. I also inspected both rear corners to see if they had been smashed in and both rear corners are in great shape (never been wrecked).

I guess all that is left for me to do is to re wire my right fron turn signal and see if that fixes the problem.
