Yeah I began to get suspicious of Advanced this winter when I bought a starter from them. The starter I bought was fine but the employees seem to lack the required knowledge to work at an automobile part store. Before they'd check me out with the new starter they wanted to test my old one however the employee had no idea how to work the test machine leading to me basically telling him how (hook power and ground up, strap it in and hit the green button). 3 days pass and I get a call from there corporate office to take a phone survey. I proceeded to tell the woman on the phone (seemed like a young girl maybe middle 20s) of my store experience. However it was hard to describe since she didn't really know what I was talking about. This could mean maybe they know their franchise lacks the customer service that autozone and o'reillys, even NAPA has, OR they're making cut backs. Doesn't really matter to me on the either or since I only go to them for parts quadratec or autozone don't have that day.

It looks like they really take care of their customers (and no, I don't work for them or have any association, I've just been itchin for a stroker for a few years now but my 4.0 won't die, hahaha)
I would stay away from Titan engines. The guys over on jeepstrokers.com don't seem to having very good luck with them at all. Here is one thread, but there are many more.

I know someone personally who's in management with Advance Auto Parts.

Do yourself a favor and get their corporate phone number and contact them directly. Tell them what issues you've had, and they'll make it right.

It's truly their company policy to "keep the customer happy". Also, give them the name of the employee you have trouble with, along with the location of the store you deal with. I guarantee you something WILL be done about it.

All you have to do is complain to the right people and you'll get everything you want from them.

I work at advance. Spartan engines are junk from what I've heard from customers. Sorry you're having such a ****ty time getting things straightened out. I'll have to agree with you on the fact that alot of the employees that work parts counters lack general automotive knowledge. Luckily my store is not one of them, I work with a great bunch of guys, and girl. I still get wrong parts from my store all the time. It's just wrong parts in the right box, or wrong parts in the system. I hope you get a refund/replacement, and that Robert fellow calls back.

I don't work for Advance, but they are our parent company. Any time I go into an advance I head straight to the commercial counter (helps that they know me from work too). Besides, only things I get from them are things I can't get from my work. But we only sell OE stuff. Kinda hard for me to turn down employee discounts.

I am a general manager @ Advance Auto. First let me apologoze for the shotty job my company has done with this. #1 it is our policy to immediatly replace an engine or transmission if the customer thinks it is faulty. Even if it over heated. Unfortunatley, there is a logistics issue (you return the engine to the store, we wait a week to send it out, then it sits in the warehouse where it is sorted with all the other cores and defects(non considered more important than the other) from our 4000 stores. Then they are shipped back to the vendor, vendor inspects and issues an authorization for the labor claim.

I can tell you this...If you push hard enough with Advance Auto Corp. 18003144243, they will give you whatever you want. We are not in the business of putting people out or keeping there money. We are in the service business. Yes a lot gets lost in the shuffle, yes like any business we have room for improvement. I have not seen any probs with ATK, they are actually the ones I prefer to sell. Maybe the dude that built yours was out late the night before and had a few too many beers. Please understand, the initial problem started with ATK and the quality of that unit. Advance will stand by every product we sell. Sometimes you have to push a little harder, because we have to weed out the BS claims( and there are plenty of those) and unfortunatley that trickles down to the little guy wrenchin in his garage.

Please do not give up on us!

I've had great luck the last couple years using the Better Business Bureau.
The first time I tried them I figured it would get me no where but someone might read my complaint and make them change their mind about doing business with them. Next thing I know, I'm getting phone calls from people falling all over them selves apologizing and trying to make me happy!!
Since then I've used them on several occasion and it's worked out great.
Just recently got a new door installed FREE because of this company's screw ups.
Just be sure when you go online to file the complaint against the correct place.Not sure if you file against advance auto parts whether to use the store's address or corporate.

I have these same pics with a newspaper beside them. Believe it or not the engine was still running until I turned the key off, it just didn't have much power...

Holy WOW batman... That is insane. Me thinks you should get replacments for anything that took with it too, anything less and I think the small claims court would be an option.

Start keeping receipts for anything you have to purchase including rental car and anything else even related to this catastrophe. Document everything.

Final (?) Update:

Robert Did call me back!! He actually called at 8:30 this morning to tell me that he had just talked to his boss and they were going to send the check for the full $600 shich should be at the store this Friday!! He then asked if there was anything else that I had to replace! I told him about the oil pan and that I had to buy another pan gasket. HE asked how much it cost and I said I thought it was about $25 and he then told me that a store refund would be ready at the store today for $25.

He said that he wished he had been the one to talk to me in the first place and I responded likewise.

So unless the check is not there Friday I feel satisfied with the way this has worked out and my faith is restored in Advance Auto. It is a shame that it took me so many calls and so much time to get this taken care of but I guess that's just the way it is sometimes.

If not for situations like yours then they would never find out what problems they are having with customer service. It may have been a headache for you but it may save a fellow jeeper a lot of time later. I plan on putting in one of these motors next month and hope it all goes well. Thanks for not backing down and holding them to their word.
