Whats the best way to close a gallon can of POR15?
I thik I read that you dont want any in the groove or you will never be able to open it again.
I tried to get every bit out of the grove but its almost impossible.
I didnt pour it out, I used the suggested method of using a scoup to transfer it into another container
Can I put plastic wrap over the top then put the top on?
You can try the plastic wrap & let the wrap float on the surface of the paint to minimize the air in the can & if you have a beer fridge somewhere, stick the can in there. I haven't had too much luck with open cans of POR15, they seem to start to cure as soon as I've had them exposed to air, so I wouldn't count on more than a few days before it's too hard to use - that's why I buy mine in cans no larger than a quart.
Other's seem to have had more luck, so maybe someone has some better ideas.
I put 2 layers of plastic wrap between the lid and the can, tap it on tight and store it in the beer fridge. I just opened it up yesterday to paint some battery hold downs for the tractor and it's as good as new after 6 months.
5. Do not paint directly from the POR-15
can unless you are going to use up all the
paint in one session. Stir contents of can
thoroughly, then dispense a quantity of POR-
15 into a separate container and seal can
immediately using plastic food wrap between
lid and groove of can. If can is sealed metalto-
metal with paint in the groove, can will be
sealed permanently.
Best Method: keep groove free of paint by
using coffee scoop or similar device to
dispense.
Note: Leftover paint should not be put back
in can as this will shorten shelf life and might
cause pressure to build up in can, causing
the lid to pop off. Refrigerate unused POR-
15 for longer shelf life.
Plastic wrap between the can and lid isn't enough, you can't have any air touching the paint if you want any chance of keeping it. It won't last forever, but longer then without it.
