I've got a YJ too, and was in my buddies YJ with a soundbar and I really didn't like the soundbar he had, but not for sound reasons. It really took away from a lot of the "open air" feel that I have in my jeep with no soundbar (instead I have sound wedges). But anyway, I think that the VDP ultimate 6-speaker sound bar is probably one of the best you can buy

Since you have the '87 Wrangler with the sport bar like mine (presumably), if you do get the sound pods be ready for a load of fun trying to install them! (/sarcasm) They sound good, don't get me wrong, but since they have to be mounted in front of the main hoop, you have to mount them about an inch away from the hoop so you don't hit the windshield-bar bolts when drilling the holes. If you do get them though, PM me and I'll walk you through installing them.

ah yea, that would kinda rule out the pods on the roll bar.

Have fun, here's what they'll look like when installed (if you're getting the same ones I have).

As long as you don't mind not being able to use a duster cover, I say get the QuadPods. I just installed a set in my Jeep, and they sound AWESOME. I would recommend getting them without speakers, and buy quality speakers to put in them.

tompatt- yeah, i really really wanted a soundbar but A) with the top down, it actually covers a big part of the top of the jeep and i really love the open-air feeling of the YJ, and B) i wanted 6x9s as my rear speakers but no company makes a soundbar with that big of a speaker set.
hence, I went with the sound wedges, got a used pair on ebay, they sound great, they do the job, and i'm a happy camper. (on the plus side, if you go with the wedges, you'll have money left over to ask for something else for christmas too)
but hey, tons of soundbar people can't be wrong, either... the bottom line, your sound will improve either way

I picked up a factory soundbar from a TJ on ebay for about $50 and a set of 6.5" Infinity speakers for another $50. I stuffed the bar full of pillow stuffing and just run it off a Pioneer CD player... sounds plenty good for a Jeep, though it does take away a little of that "open air" feeling I think it's worth it.
