battery power problem

alright, so my battery was dying all day yesterday, brand new battery, so I went to autozone and bought a new alternator(had it tested and failed), got home and put new one on. And then I went back to autozone to get my core charge for the alt. and he tells me the battery has to be charged fully for a new alternator to work properly. so then I drive back home and charge the battery overnight. and today, it cranks up just fine and im driving to pick somebody up and my check engine light comes on and i notice my windshield wipers are running slower and the battery is dying again. Im lost on what the deal is

The alternator should not need a fully charged battery to work properly - that's one of the things the alternator is there for, to charge a low battery. I'd suggest having a look at all the connections in your charging circuit, sometimes a connection gets missed during installation, or some connections might be corroded - look closely at all the heavy ground cables around the battery and alternator.

Another thing that's missed fairly often are the 50 amp fuses in the power distribution center by the battery. They sometimes get blown when the battery cables get moved around get "shorted".
