Bad vibration and sounds while in gear

Hey guys I own a 91 yj 5 speed inline 6 160000 mikes on it and I just replaces the main u joint on the rear drive shaft about a week ago. It was running great for a week. Then one day I ran over a bump in the street and immediately noticed I broke something. I have gone over the u joints again and they are in great shape. I am getting bad vibrations that shake the entire jeep during the middle of first and second gear.

I hear sometimes metal grinding noises or squeaks that come during first and second gear. This jeep is running 4 inch lift on 33 x 12.50 x 15's the jeep is still running and driving with these problems I was thinking I may have broken a Trans mount but I have no idea where to begin on this one. Please help I'm sure this is going to involve dropping my ax15 but I sure hope not

Is there a chance when the suspension compressed that it ran out of yoke and bottomed out into the transfer case damaging it?

Take a pic of your driveline angle and post it

Trans mount is not hard to change

Get a pic

Do you have the skid plate dropped an inch? Im no expert but it might be that the drive shaft is binding and chewinv up u joints
The trans mount is below the trans and bolts into the skid. Take a pry bar and pry up on the trans

So guess the bad news is that the Trans mounts are not broken .....:( .... When I decelerate and remain in gear I can hear the play in the drive line from whatever I broke .....this leads me to believe that I damaged the transfer case....because there doesn't seem to be any problems with the clutch or Trans through any gears.....just the vibration that doesn't always happen....it happens prob 8 out of 10 times that I come off of the clutch....what can I do to diagnose the transfer case without actually just pulling it out .?? Btw thx you for your input

I do! I just dont have enough knowledge of this to help you out

jschilling 05-03-2013 11:24 AM

I know that if you get a lift sometimes people get SYE's or a transfer case drop. could it deal with us needing one of those?
