Bad Ignition Coil ??

Question on my 4.2.
What will cause the ignition coil to have a orange spark? Shouldnt the sparsomething else or white? I pulled a couple of plug wires and they have a orange spark also. Could something else cause the weak spark?? The Jeep will run for a second and die.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Get the battery and coil checked. Autozone can check both (as long as they have an ohm meter on hand). Might as well get the alternator checked too I suppose.

Are you using a spark checker? If not you are risking burning up your coil, cap, rotor, ignition wires, or ICM by just pulling the high voltage wires.

The battery is good. Tested the coil and it read 9.1 with the multimeter set on 20k

Per the Haynes Manual for the 1987-1990 carbureted models the primary resistance should be from 1.13-1.23 ohms. Secondary resistance should be 77-93 kilo-ohms.

The primary tested within range, the secondary was at 91 k ohms ..there was just a small amount of oil inside the plug wire goes if that matters.. thanks
