Back up Lamp Switch

Hello all:

On my transmission, I've got one electrical connection leading back to the fuse block. Anybody know which of these wires should connect to the back up lamp switch? I'll post pics of the wires tomorrow.

The back up switch is mounted to the transmission, I believe it's about 1/2 to 3/4 the way back toward the top on the passenger side.

The wire between the backup switch and the fuze block should be Yellow/Black.
The wire between the backup switch and the backup lights should be Brown/Green.

My backup switch is bad also. It is located on the drivers side of th POS Peugot. I buypassed the conector and the light came on so I know the switch is bad. Now I just have to order the switch. Any idea where to find the switch? Sorry for hijacking your thread losfelizwheelz.

The part number of the backup switch is 53004522.
You can get it from a number of places.
For example... http://www.quadratec.com/products/52449_0254.htm
or http://www.trailquest.com/electrical/switches.shtml
or http://www.jeep4x4center.com/product...umber=53004522

I know, man...the eighties saw some weird engineering choices.

The Jeep Wrangler...an iconic symbol of American industrial capacity, love of individual freedom, and hegemonic military dominance...now with a French transmission.

As a born and raised Detroiter, I hang my head in shame...

JEEP was bought by Renault in the old days. Not sure how long they owned it before they dumped it. Maybe that's where they found the Peugot tranny. Not sure about it though.

SO...I just hooked it up, and no back up lamps. I know my harness is good, cuz it's a new harness from painless. The colors match up (sort of) with a yellow/black wire, a brown/white wire, and two grounds (black/white to solenoid, black to main ground).

Even with it all wired, I got nothin...great. Just farking great.

When I did my flush mount LEDs, I just went the simple route and mounted two 55W halogens out of the way. To avoid the headache you are experiencing and dealing with finding a place for a relay and such, I just wired those two in their own circuit to my aux. fuse panel that I already had installed under the hood for accessories. Now I just flip the switch before backing at night (it's right above my shifter on the dash). It also comes in handy as auxillary lighting behind the Jeep when needed.....Common set up, I know, but it works great for me!
