back seat fitment

I've copied this from the jeep buying section as I have an additional question.

OK, I went to see a YJ and it's a 93 renegade 4.0! The flares are black and the body is red, it has had the front and rear diffs replaced, transfer case (np231) rebuilt, has been converted from auto to manual, has a new clutch, headers and a few other bits and pieces which have either been repaired or replaced.
The drivetrain and engine bay look absolutely spotless with not a single sign of leakage on anything. It has 31" BFG's on 15" black GT rims with a new set of alloy GT rims (I sold them to the guy and now he's giving me them for free if I take the YJ) ha ha. It is not in perfect shape aesthetically, but mechanically it is 100% from what I can see! It has 191,xxx KM's original on the clock and engine, most other mechanical/drivetrain parts have been replaced or repaired in the last six months!
It has just passed inspection a month ago and has 12 months insurance! The price is around AED13,000 (US$3500) all in. Sound good?

Also, it has no rear seats, which isn't an issue right now, but once my boy gets a bit older I would like to install a rear bench so his car seat can go in it on some light desert runs. So, can I only use the rear bench from a YJ or do TJ ones fit too?

Thanks guys

Sounds like a nice Jeep

Only YJ/CJ seats fit. TJ will fit if you cut up the rear fender-walls, but it's too much of a hassle. You'd be able to fit 3 people (comfortably) instead of the 2 you can fit in the YJ though, but if it's only so that you can fit your son, then don't even bother.

Hi.
What have the diffs been replaced with?
You can just add a yj bench seat back there and if you're creative you could squeeze in one from a bronco.

OK, that's what I thought. It is a pretty good deal. I'm limited on YJ knowledge, but as far as I can see it looks great!

I won't be cutting into anything and will mostly be keeping it as it is, as it is ready to wheel and has had a LOT of work done to get it up to scratch. The guy had it given to him and planned ot give it to his son when he returned to the UAE but he isn't coming back now, so I got the first offer for it at a discount!

Thanks mate

They have been replaced/rebuilt with OEM parts bought from the dealer and installed by an offroad specialist here in the UAE. I know and trust the guy who did the work, he is one of our members in the 4x4 club I marshal with and has a very good reputation out here in the offroad community.

And not much chance of finding a bronco in the UAE. Four years here and I don't think I've ever seen one!

I will not need the rear bench for at least six months, possibly a year so it gives me plenty of time to find a good set and install them. How difficult would it be to fit two or three front seats from a YJ/TJ? I like to idea of having the high back renegade front seats in the rear but may have trouble finding one which has been scrapped!

Thanks guys

I've seen the front seats installed before and I think it looks pretty good. IIRC they weren't from a wrangler they sat a little lower like the low back CJ seats. I asked about the diffs because the rear is notorious for going BOOM.

ah, well from what I've been told the diffs are brand new so I hope I don't have that issue!

As for the seat, I will do a little research and see what I can find, but I think having two front seats would be a good little mod for the back. How would the seat belts work out though?

It's a '93 so they're shoulder belts originally but you can easily just use the mounts from your new seats to add the lap belts.

Ah, OK. I guess I will be playing around with the seats for a while then. Not many YJ's around here to grab parts from so I guess I need to get creative!

If you want two bucket style seats in the back, you can use 2 seats from a Miata back there.

That'll be a bit easier to find out here. Still not very popular, but more so than bronco's and cavaliers!

On another note. I picked her up yesterday from the guy and it runs like a charm. It took some getting used to driving a manual as I haven't driven a left hand drive manual for about 4 years, so now when I go to the desert it'll be a big learnign curve for the first hour or so!
