Ba10 to ax15-speedo issue please

Have my 87 in the shop to perform this transplant, the donor trans & TC is out of a 95 YJ. Of course my speedo is mech. & the 95 has the electric sender. I've read the sticky's & did a search, seems like no diffinitive answer out there. The shop wants to reuse my 207 instead of the 231, to retain the mech. drive. This would require changing out the spline of course, (also I had the TC & AX just recently rblt w/new brgs, seals etc) I wanted it in good shape when it goes in. I want to use the 231 with the electric sender & possibly change out the speedo to a Equus electric or ???. Of course I have no harness or ?. Is there a easy solution to this with out getting very involved with wiring etc???. Were right in the middle of this conversion & I sure would appreciate some answers! thanks for your time. (one last question will the tail housing from the 207 fit a 231? to convert the 231 TC back to a mechanical drive if I have to)??

the drive gear on the output shaft is the same as is the indexing hole in the tail cone. there is no issue with using the mech speedo gear vs the electric sender.

Speedo sender change??

Thanks Ratmonkey for the reply!, Sorry I don't have both units in front of me, But if I understand you right, I can take off the electric sender & reinstall my old mechanical sender & go from there?? Or am I missing something? Thanks for your help!

not missing anything, the mech speedo will plug right into the hole for the electric sender and work just fine.
remember to properly index it for the gear you're using.

the adapter comes off the transfer case with one bolt and then pulls out. The gear is on an eccentric and needs to be indexed or clocked so that the gear will mesh.

Can you guys shed some more light on this subject? I am having the same problem. Do we need to remove the gear from the cable end on the old unit to expose the square gear? Then it should install into the new housing?
