is it a 351 windsor or clevland? cuz if its a clevland thats a big motor might have some fun fitting it in the yj. the 351 windsor is the pretty much the same block size as the 302 and 289 just has a bigger crank in it.

You got a good deal & i'm not knocking that...
but since your wondering about the rockwells & why 42's have to be run, is because the rockwells dont have alot of ground clearance but can be... you can pullanywhere from 1.5-3" out of the bottom

on the fact that it has the 4 banger in it now.. thats why i did suggest the rockwells... because i figured you'd be throwing a V8 in it soon...
heres the comparisons on the F250 to rockwells
ok you say you dropped 500 bucks for the truck < Sweet deal by the way> even tho you still have the Tcase & engine & all the other goodies...
Ring & Pinion for the Dana 44, 200 bucks, rebuild kit, 150 bucks, detroit 500 bucks, 300 bucks set up fee
Dana 60, R&P 200 bucks, rebuilt kit, 150 bucks,detroit close to 600 bucks, set up fee 200-300 bucks
that alone comes to close to 3000 bucks.... thats buying the F250 &having everything set up to run the axles... this price DOES NOT include narrowing them if you want


Rockwells, 400 for a front, ok lets just say 2 front ends < for front & rear steer> 800 bucks
R&P < more than likely wouldnt need a new set considering they rarely see alot of highway use> but for SH*ts & giggles, we'll say 200 each < one gear Ratio... 6.72:1 ONLY> , detroits 400 bucks each < detroits drop in like a Gm14 bolt, so you can install them yourself>
seal kit, 100 bucks each, narrowing them, you can do that yourself, take the axle shafts out, cut the long side down on the front 7 1/4" & reweld... then you can run the same shaft in both sides...
on a rear, if you dont want rear steer, knock the duall wheel adapters off yourself...

that comes to roughly 2000 Disk brakes are up to you... if its offroad only, Pinion brakes works great, use the calipers off the F250 or any 3/4 Ton truck.... you'll only need 2

rockwells running front & rear steer will cost close to what you can build the dana 44 & 60 for... BUT the Ujoints are twice as big, shafts are 1.75" Thick.. the gears are straight cut so they will work forwards or backwards...
& you can even fit 15" wheels on them, by knocking the dual wheel adapters off & the drums on the front

throw these in & you'll NEVER have to worry about ANYTHING again


I'm not trying to talk you out of what you got...just answering your question...

What year ford are we talking about ????


cause the ford I picked up f250 came stock with 4.10s... and the width on the wms to wms was 67..

and it came with the 3/4 ton version of the t 18 tranny and 205 t case

and if you v8 it and don't rock crawl
(only a rock crawler) then the 4.10s are what you would want to run... thats a tire size up to a 38


I would buy the truck... 500
part out everything
500-600 for axles
500 for the tranny
500 for the divorced 205
700 bucks for the motor
and about another 500 for all the body parts --- if there all good

and get the older style bronco running gear --- 9 inch and a d 44
that is still super strong

the old broncos with the ford 9 have a pretty low pinion angle on those axles is the only down fall. You could get a dana 44 front and back off and old scout 2 though.

Gator where do you find the rockwells, I jsut want to look into it, do you have to find them used then I will spend sometime looking for them. Im not looking to drop these in in the very near future, Engine work will be comming forst , still have to get the POS stripped down and blasted to clean it up a bit and start from there.

oh 1 other thing everyone is saying it will cost more to cut them down, is it ok to run the acles full length or will it interfere with the steering?

no the axles with just stick pretty far out. making it hard to be street legal.

only one gear ratio.... 6.72:1 this is another reason why taller tires are a must

narrowing the axles down 7.25" WMS to WMS are 72" full width are like 68 to 69"
but as you may know 44 boggers or even Tsl's are so wide, being that the axles are 72" you'll barely notice as far as ground clearance goes... Barry's Frog sitting on 44's had almost 13" at the bottom of the diff... but you can pull 1.5-3" out of the bottom of the diff
as far as turning radius .... IN 4 wheeler mag on the top truck challenge... Cory's Chevy truck turned in 47 feet.... Barry's Frog < used to be a Jeep> turned in 39.7 feet... now i'm sure he was using the rear steering So i'm sure the turning radius would be very compareble to a full width axle
trail ready & many other co's make 20" beadlocks,, or you can even go with a 15" rim
Government actions are your ticket to searching... there was a set recently went for 500 bucks in NC... 500 bucks for a pair
Check out Olivedrab.com they have a listing on who to search through... Army Depots are a good soruce as well
V8Wrangler has a good point that you need to check out... I live in Tx & we dont have fender flare laws or any of that... so check out your laws to be sure what you can & cant do

yeah and even iff there are flare laws most of the time they arn;t enforced, ask around if there are flare laws

Freak .. check my writeup about droppin' the 350 into my Jeep. The exact same type of proceedure can be followed for the Ford to be dropped into your Jeep.

The differences would be very minor .. but man, I love my Jeep now (more than before, if that could be possible )
