Glad it worked out for you.

Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate your comments.

I know I can speak for Max, and many others on here, when I say that these writeups are fun to do and it makes it that much better when someone can use them to save a bundle on repairs and learn about their Jeeps at the same time. Taking some of the mystery out of these jobs can give you the confidence to tackle bigger projects in the future.

That's what its all about, right?

Yes they definitely help boost confidence I know they did for me. I have always been afraid of transmissions but since I didn't have to take it apart I was on the fence and this write up gave me the confidence to do it myself. Saved me a few hundreds bucks that way too thankfully. I am still at one income since my wife got hurt 2 months ago and will be out of work another few months so things are really tight right now

1995 YJ. 2 inch BDS Spring lift. 1 inch shackle lift. 1.25 inch JKS Body Lift 33x12.5x15's. Engo 10,000 pound winch.

Keeping a good thought for the Wife.

In the meantime...Read, read, read. Start with the YJ FAQ's pinned at the top of this subforum. Familiarize yourself with the engine bay, fuel system components, steps for routine fluid changes including differential maintenance, brake system etc.,etc.

The more you do for your Jeep the less you'll want someone else wrenchin on it!

Just got home a couple of hours ago from doing this very same job. It took me a month to have the right seal sent to me. This thread makes me want to take the transfer caseback off to chech to see if my plug is there lol.

Spot on write up and pics. I think your count was off though... I do believe it's 2 million turns an 1/8" at a time.

Would a bad output seal cause oil spray onto the muffler heat shield, muffler and underside of the body behind the t-case above the axle? Is there anything else back there aside from the rear diff that is fluid filled? You can see the oil spray in the pics.

Any help would be appreciated.

My undercarriage looks just like yours. I definitely am leaking from the rear output seal on the tranny. I just haven't worked up my courage to try the repair yet lol.

If it IS leaking from the Trans/TC seal, make sure you stay on top of the transmission fluid level until you replace that seal.
Bad things happen when the tranny has no juice in it.

I'm about 95% done with an engine rebuild in my YJ... just waiting on a few odds and ends. While I'm waiting, I pulled the TC last night, drained it and the tranny (was gonna change the fluid anyways), and ordered all new seals. For < $30, it seems worth the piece of mind especially because I can't drive it just yet anyways.

With the TC out, I'll be taking a page out of Doc's book and cleaning/painting it as well as the tranny. Might as well make it pretty while I wait!

I've also got all the parts for the hand throttle mod so I can keep the engine at higher idle during the initial startup to make life a little easier.

Thanks for both those write up's, Doc.
