ax5 input shaft question

Hi All,

I just picked up an 91 ax5 for 35 dollars. He said it worked great before he removed it to upgrade to a 6cyl engine and a ax15. Is it normal to have sideways movement of the input shaft? The shaft that goes into the clutch assembly. If not it must be the front bearing? I can move it sideways about 1/2 inch in all directions. Thanks for all your help.

Yes, it is normal to have a fair amount of slop in the input shaft. The pilot bearing in the crankshaft holds it perfectly once it's installed.

There is no situation that cannot be improved with a small but well-placed explosive.
