AX15 Rebuild?

Has anyone rebuilt an AX15? Mine's making some goofy noises and getting stuck in gears (not bad yet) and I'd like to take on the project. I've never rebuilt one, but I wouldn't mind trying. Any suggestions?? Thanks. Tom.

85 XJ TurboDiesel. 2.1l Renault engine, 4dr, 4x4, 5speed. It's rather embarassing to look at, but I still can't sell it...too weird.

I am in the same boat. When I shift, I hear these noises from my tranny, somethings definitely loose in there.

Not too bad of a job and i am a novice by far... really only took me a few hours to fully do the job. I've done an AX5 and AX15.... pretty much the exact same thing... just that the Ax15 is a bit more robust... here is the service manual

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/PDFs/New%20Jun%202003/Jeep%20component%20service%20manual%20Transmission _AX15.pdf

this should help you out tremedously... did for me.....

when i did it the only odd tool that i needed was a press to remove and replace the bearing... if it wasnt for that the job would have taken a ton of time longer....other than that i just used basic tools in my tool box.

do it slow too... and when you remove the old parts place them on a bench in the same order that you removed them .... so you can put it back together in the same fashion without pulling out your hair.....

i know a number of guys on this forum have done the rebuilds who have a lot more know-how than i ... if ya got questions post em
