average MPG out of 4.2L YJ?
Just a bit curious, but what do you guys average for fuel consumption in your YJ's?
I know my carb has been acting up, but since I bought the Jeep I have not gotten over 11mpg. Please tell me that you guys average more than me .BTW, my 4.2 is stock, with a 5 speed, 3.07 gears, and 30" AT tires. Thanks.

About 12 around town, over 15 highway and backroads.
Doesn't sound too bad compared to some others. But the GPG (Grins per Gallon) are higher than any vehicle I've ever owned. ![]()

![]() Yeah, I guess it could be worse.... I just thought it would get slightly better than it does. Guess I'll have to live with it. Sadly, this Jeep is not the most gas-guzzling vehicle I've owned. My last 4WD truck was a '79 Ford Bronco with 351M/ 4 speed, and 35's..... I averaged about 8mpg in that hog!

12 here, I'm glad someone asked this question, I was wondering if I was running about average with everyone else or not.

Well if our Jeeps got 16-20 new, could anyone tell me what i could replace to maybe restore that gas mileage...im getting 12 city, an 10 highway (not sure why).
also, does anyone else w/ the stock 4.2 have problems going 70 even downhill? Mine seems to bog down...maybe burning too rich, not enough air? im very responsive in neutral, but under driving load, very sluggish. Last edited by JKNIPE2000; 12-09-2003 at 11:47 AM.. |

Doug, that picture is great. Answers many good questions
![]() Now, if I could manage to even get 15mpg on the Highway I would be so much happier My commute to work right now is 40 miles combined. Come late January, my driving will be even longer. |

Ok I have a 4.0 last year when it was stock 29" or 30" tires with 3.55 gears the best i could get was about 22mpg on the highway.
Now I have 33" tires with 3.73's and i average about 16-18mpg. does the 4.2 drink that much more gas. My uncles 69 camaro w/ a built 350 gets 10mpg (if you keep your foot out of it )
