Thanks Gage. That will be helpful for sure. I'm trying to decide what mirror to get off Ebay. the Jeep sites want 400+ for OEM versions

I was just adding some feedback for the mirror I bought.
Not necessarily too heavy, if you don't take hard hits a lot!

If your worried about it cracking the mirror, I have seen a mod where some one took flat stock and welded it to the upper windshield frame and then attached the mirror button to that. Heavy mirror problem solved!

It is cool. I just got done with doing this mod this afternoon. What a great improvement to my YJ. I got the mirror from PicknPull for $20 off a 2004 Saturn Vue.

I made sure to take as much of the original wire harness as possible. Same with the temp sensor. I cut the wires all the way back at the firewall...there's a connector there as well but I figured I didn't need it. The ceiling padding was already half down so I took the wiring all the way back to the rear dome light.

I couldn't get the mirror mount off the windshield of the Vue so I chanced that it would fit my stock mount on my 1992 YJ and it did. Just crank the set screw down a little extra

I ran the wiring through the windshield frame and used brake line bleeder valve covers as a makeshift grommet. Worked like a charm. I fished the bundle down through the existing hole where the wiper motor sits. I used 12v switched power that I had previous tapped off the radio I think as well as a ground at the same location. I then ran the two temp probe wires through the existing firewall boot and married them up with the wires from the probe itself. I made the splice right near the washer bottle reservoir and the temp probe is under the driver's side fender and uses the existing headlight harness loom clip to hold it in.

All in all, about 4 hours worth of time, not including the trip to the JY. Well worth it though...between this mod and the intermittent wiper mod, I feel like I'm driving a car from this century!

Good job. I added a Tahoe mirror myself and mounted the temp probe in front of the radiator. Like you said, feels more modern.

What is this intermittent wiper mod you speak of? I haven't heard of that one and sure could use it on my 1995 YJ. Is there a write-up you followed?

Thanks.

I hate to link to another forum, but I didn't find any on JF.

Word of caution. The intermittent wiper mod is a PITA. Extensive, tedious and time consuming. Working under the dash is very space limited.

Good luck.

Haha...appreciate it! I've been looking for a reason to pull my column apart and replace switches. I think you just provided that.

Not to hijack this thread, but...while you're at it, replace the turn signal switch for sure. Also, pay particular attention to the way the horn diaphragm comes out and the orientation of the highbeam switch/rod.

Good luck

I have completed this conversion to 3 YJ's and have never needed to swap the switch in the column. I have gone to the JY and pulled a lever from a square body S10 and the intermittent box from an XJ and installed both without any further mods. Cost under $10 this way.
