Looking at the manufacturers for these it looks like CIPA and GENTEX are the big ones.
Which is better?
The CIPA is cool because you can get the maps lights, but I've read that some people think the GENTEX is a better product....also what GM uses?

These are gentex. Pretty sure all the GM ones will be made by them. All the ones I have seen were.
I have never heard of the other company, I had to google them to see what they were.

got the mirror installed, temp works good but compass is off. I set the zone and tried calibrating it a couple of times. north and south are correct but east and west are reversed. anyone have any ideas whats wrong?

Do everything with a positive attitude, it won't always work but you'll piss enough people off to make it worthwhile.

the voices aren't real but they sure have good ideas.

I looked at my sons '02 Avalanche and it has the temp and compass without Onstar. Think he will notice if I jack it?

Very nice. I like the pix, write up, and your follow up. I'll certainly look into it. Can't wait for the cold weather in Feb when it gets down to 68. Had to turn the fans off last nite.

Regards,

I've been meaning to do this mod for a long time. I love the mirror in my Suburban, and the map lights in the Blazer. Actually, having a mirror with lights at all would be really helpful. If I am going anywhere unfamiliar I bring a GPS, so the compass isn't a big deal, but the temp sensor would be awesome!

100 Characters is not enough to have an interesting/relevant signature.

Great idea. I'm definitely doing this. Will the stock mounting tab be able to hold the weight of the new mirror or do I need to replace it with another?

Oh sorry. I read that it fit the tab on your Cherokee and was too lazy to read on. It's morning. Lol. Back on topic, it's pretty cold out now. Will a heat gun crack the glass? What would be your suggestion on how to remove the tab?

If you use the one from the vue like I did, you will need the tab from it also. Its slightly larger and the mirror will not attach to the factory jeep tab. The jeep tab is too small. However the older style like I put in my Cherokee, it can use the stock tab.
