Anyone put hydroboost on a YJ?
I am going to be putting hydroboost on my YJ here in the next couple months. Right now I have the stock front brakes, stock master cylinder, and a 8.8 in the back with discs. I also have a 4 wheel disc prop valve from a 98 ZJ. Brakes are good but I still want better. So I am going to be doing the WJ knuckle swap. But instead of useing the WJ calipers (that are prone to warping rotors) I will be useing the front (dual piston) calipers from a mustang cobra. They bolt directly to the WJ knuckles same as the stock WJ calipers. For rotors I will be useing ones from a 99 ford crown vic, instead of redrilling the WJ ones. Pluse the WJ ones are just slightly thinner than the crown vic ones (witch are the same thickness as the mustang ones) I will also be useing the hydroboost unit and master cylinder from a 98 cobra. Reason for that is because the master cylinder is made for the front brakes I am putting on it, and for 4 wheel discs. (where the YJ one is made for the smaller singe piston calipers and disc/drum) Plus the hydroboost is a lot better than vaccume. I have most everything squared away except for one question. Does the stock YJ steering pump put out enough fluid or pressure for the hydroboost system, or will I need a bigger or upgraded steering pump? I looked on vanco's website (who do a lot of hydroboost for jeeps) and couldnt find any info on weather or not the stock pump will work. I am gonna start checking around here to see if any shops can make me some custom hydrolic lines to hook the system up. and I still need to buy some more parts. I am gonna replace all steering components when I do this. All tie rods, the ball joints and hub/bearing assemblys will be new (cause jeep has 187K on it) So once I get all that I will be ready to do the conversion.

I have seen it done on a TJ with stock pump. Seems to work great!
I am thinking about doing it for my YJ its a "while I am there" mod. I will be using a stock YJ pump but new or a pump off the Chevy 350 I am dropping in...

Most everyone else I have talked to said I needed a higher output pump. I am gonna go ahead and order a brand new one from PSC (only $160) My old one has 189K on it so I figgure a replacement is not a bad idea. I think I am gonna order one of their hose kits as well as one of their new resiviors with the built in filter. I am still trying to buy all the parts so the swap is still a little ways off.

It works, but you might run into problems steering on hard stops. Mike Duncan (www.fourxdoctor.com) does this modification on Jeeps all the time. Al Bsharah (www.jeepaholics.com) had Mike do this to his YJ. Might contact those two for input.
