Update

I was poking around in the hole that is now my glove box, and I think that there is a fresh air vent that passes through where I want to put the amp. My question to you (anyone) is: "can I remove this?" Is it just an empty pipe that carries the fresh air, or is there something else in there?

I am going to try to post some pics. I have the pipe circled, as well as the vent that comes out near the driver side floor.

I probably don't need a fresh air vent since the top is usually down, and if not (i.e. in the winter) I just unzip the window.

They make small 2 or 4 channel amps, why not get one that will fit where your radio would be, and put a metal plate over the opening.

Something like this, 2-Channel 240-Watt Waterproof Marine Amplifier

You could take the fresh air box out but you are going to have to fill some holes and find a way to seal the entrance which is the vent hole between the hood and windshield there in the center. I disabled my vent cable, and usually dont like to use a vent anyway so I may be thinking the same thing about mine. Let us know how it works out if you decide to go that route.

Make sure that your cowl/windshield seal works well, hate for water to get into that area and damage your amp. Common area for a water leak in YJs.

Thought about that too. Looks like a decent amp, and the price is right on amazon, so if it sucks I won't loose out on much more than time.

I still think I am going to take out the vent and fab something for that area. It seems ridiculous to have a fresh air vent in an open top jeep...and I could totally use that space.

Going to make sure it is well sealed though, like Dwayne said.

Will keep you posted

I mounted my amp above my fender well in the back and made this cover for it.

That is pretty nice.

I like the idea b/c it is up high enough that I won't worry about going through streams, and with that lid, I could still stack gear on top.

Can you provide some specifics. What's it made of, is it removable, and does it get hot?

Thanks for the post
