antifreeze - overflow can....

After getting my jeep back from paint booth - took it out for a ride - first time in about a month - antifreeze moving from the radiator to the overflow can - then out of the overflow hose - to the ground...

Would this indicate a bad thermostat - ie not opening at temp ? Anything else ?

Thanks...
Al

If not the tstat, then a blocked hose or rad. May be a good time to do a coolant flush and change out the tstat and hoses.

hmmm -
pretty new radiator, hoses as well - I'll change the cap first - then the t-stat.

If the cap is bad - ie letting air into the system - this could be a cause of why the coolant doesn't get sucked back into the radiator - I remember this problem from 'years' ago.

Dumb question tho - if the cap is supposed to keep the air into the system - then doesn't the fact of the overflow can - with an overflow hose which lets the antifreeze out - then let air into the system -

Dumb question 2 - after driving it, let it cool down - I took the radiator cap off - it was full - looked like brand new (from the new radiator about a year ago) - so the radiator level was just under the filler neck where the cap goes on - and the overflow can was about 1/2 full - Do you think there is too much antifreeze in the system to begin with ?

PS - no, I'm not a mechanic...

Could be too much coolant, but I'd vote with the bad radiator cap folks...cheap enough to replace, and they do wear out...BTW, if ya wanna act like yer in the know, call the overflow bottle a 'puke bag'!!! That's what a lotta the street rodders call 'em...for obvious reasons... When the engine is cold, the puke bag should only be half full, it should have a mark on it accordingly...
