another mass inspection question

just wondering a few things, i don't have doors but i do have cj mirrors, i have flush mounted tail lights and xenon tj flares. i have a lift with 33s. wondering what the max height was for a jeep in mass. right under neath my door is at 29 1/2". right under my rocker panels is like 22 or 23. i also have only one gauge, a tach. i replaced the dash with a flat bent up peice of sheet metal. my horn doesn't work so i have a small button on the dash... but with no gauges can i pass inspection... and also without side lights in the rear? not sure i even want to inspect it, but just wondering if it were possible. i figure no sticker is better then a reject!

you need a normally functioning horn, you need functioning lights in all the original factory locations. The height not sure, I believe it's measured from the lowest part of the frame which is the t-case. Unless your hitch ismounted to the frame, you could try a drop hitch to lower it. But you should be fine 33 are not that high

the law in ma states that you are allowed to lift the vehicle as long as you always get porportionate tires...so if you lift it 4" then you have to but on tires that are 4" taller than stock. depending on where you go, you might get nabbed for the tires sticking out past the flares...you wont pass without you gauges working and your horn not working, and you also wont pass if all your lights arent working.

well i have flares to cover the tires, i have a horn but not on the wheel, and all my lights work, but they aren't factory... and i only have one gauge, a tach, and that works fine... i have no chance in hell of passing huh... what if i put my gauge cluster for the speedo and what not on but not mounted? i can hang it on my steering wheel, i did that for a while before i got tired of repainting the dash. i'm not sure how picky stations are around here, i've never gotten an inspection for the jeep, and my car has been uninspected for 2 years.

do you have a functioning speedo anyway? If you don't I would get one in that looks and works as it should. Otherwise you have mileage tampering issues I think. I think the horn needs to be able to be used in it's factory location as a means of safety, but not sure. it sounds like you will just be throwing money to the stae with no chance of passing.

You're screwed.

Mass is tough.

Horn won't pass, guages, flush mount lights (need rear side indicator which you eliminated when you flushed mounted)

Height should be okay.

You'll fail on height and lights. I would try to register that thing in NH or VT. Driving around is Mass. without a sticker will get you in trouble. The meter maid and ticket you and have you towed. Good Luck

you have to register in the state you live in...people used to do that back in the day to get around paying the sales tax...the rmv got smart and now they ask for you home address, and thats where they send the title. unless by register you mean get a sticker, in which case i think it needs to be in the state that it is registered because different states have different laws. also if you just go for the test and fail, you can drive it for 30 days with a rejected sticker, and try a retest for free...its a $50 fine for not going to get your sticker, never heard of anyone getting towed over it.

I used to do inspections in Watertown MA, but that was over 4 years ago. I might be able to make a call and get you the hook up. I used to make $200 a weekend doing bogus inspections. I think my jeep has passed over 30 emissions tests. Here is my e-mail, I can make a call for you. patrick_edwards01@yahoo.com
