How much lift is needed to run 35's on a YJ, comfortably?
Don't give me the "You'll break your axles!" line. I don't want to hear it. I lay off the stupid pedal when I know its time
Right now, I am running TJ flares, a 1" bodylift. 3" Rusty's springs, and 3/8" shackles in the front to level it out. I have tons of room in the wheel wells, and my 33's don't rub when fully flexed.
I was thinking I could get longer shackles for the front and rear (1/2" for the rear, 5/8" or 3/4" for the front) and that is the max I can get out of my lift. I have minor vibes on take-off now, so I don't want to make them any worse by running full 1" lift shackles.
Guys running 35's....what is the measurement from the center of the hubs up to the lip of the fender flares? I'd like to gauge how much room there is.
I'm running a 2 inch body lift and a 2.5 inch suspention lift on 33's and am denting my fenders at full stuff, so I would say work on tuning what you have before you go for bigger tires. How much lift totally depends on how you wheel and how much you are willing to cut. I will soon be loosing my BL and going to tube fenders and cutting the rear tub. I would say if you want to keep your body, go for around 5.5-6.5" of lift.
I would have to agree with the 5.5" with 35's. I have a 4.5" and I barely rub with 33's on full flex. I know people that run 35's with a 4.5" lift and 1" body lift with no problems.
No set amount of lift. With 6" i didn't clear 33's...while wheeling. I know others here have same problem. What 35's you run also has a lot to do with it. Claws are small... krawlers are large... Give some more info and get better answers... I have 8" for 36's... but am about to also remove flares and tube fender front for more room

No digi cam and now I'm bigger... ya it was SOA with stock springs flexed like mad!!! i do have a busted weld on rear of tub and 4messed up flares.... I wouldn't have thought it either... that's why i built that setup.
The green Jeep in the following picture has 7" under it with 35x12.50x15 Pro-Comp Muds under it. He's a friend of mine. Those are the Bushwacker cutout flares but he bolted them on and didn't cut the tub. He doesn't rub at full flex with his 35's on there. Mine is the punie black on next to it. ha ha.
i know 2 people who run 35's w/ the RE 4.5" XD kit, a 1" BL, and TJ flares. they both run BFG's though so they're a little smaller then 35", but there still isn't much rubbing. dunno if this matters, but they both have D44's f/r.
What you need to run 35's is different for each person. Street jeep 4" you can run them i would suppose. The way i wheel i need good clearance i like the skinny pedal and that has a way of forcing things....
Well, my buddy is a master car painter. He used a shade of neon green, added standard green metal flake and a little bit of pearl. It's a completely custom color. He gets a ton of compliments about it. I watched him mix it up and the complexity of thinners and amounts he used was just way over my head. It looks GREAT in the sunlight. Later <><
