That's what I like the most about it. The junkyards around here only want $40 for the alt regardless what kind. Which is cool because that's all my budget is

But seriously I wish I had seen somebody do this *years* ago, I coulda been making $$$ on the side that way.

another question, you being a welder may be able to answer. when welding on the jeep itself, ive read some places that you have to switch the ground and positive to avoid damaging electronics on the jeep? i havent tried yet, dont wanna screw it up till i know what im doing exactly

Well, that's just plain weird. Take a look at this site, they might have one that fits. http://www.surpluscenter.com/sort.as...s&keyword=PPP2

They got great deals on winch and hydraulic stuff too

Actually not quite true. See, the power surge is so big that you run the risk regardless which way its grounded. So one way is either unhook the batt *completely* from the jeep, only use it to run the welder. The safest way is totally unplug the ECU while welding. The rest of the sensors will be OK. Speaking from experience.

Yep, I see it. If I remember right, a 1/2 dia pulley hole fits most alts. Might have to hone it a bit. Imagine what it be like if you put a tiny 2-inch pulley on the alt and a big honkin 10-inch air compressor pulley on the crank!

ill have to try it that, idk what circumstances the gen3 gm engines require to keep running, unplugging the battery it can run because of the main alt but the unplugging the ecu would turn the engine off wouldnt it?

Ah, crap, yer right. It would be OK if you were welding someone else's rig... Best way to protect your ECU would be to reverse the leads like you said before. Either way it would still make me a bit nervous. Keep in mind too, put the ground clamp as close as possible to the spot yer actually welding at, so the juice only wants to go that way instead of all over your rig.
