Alternator problems again!

so i recently replaced my alternator with one from autozone and it worked great all summer but now that its cold its getting really noisy and making my jeep hiccup again. Do you guys think that it could be a lousy part or that the cold weather messed it up? What i want to do this time around is buy one brand new. i need something that is good but not too pricy. Im not looking to do any upgrades or anything i just need a new Alt. So anny suggestions on whichbrand of alt i should buy?

Go back to autozone and have them test it.

Well the thing is autozone sais that the warranty is voided if you go offroading. Everything this alternator is doing is what my first alt did when it failed.

Same advice I give everyone else - find a local shop that does rewinds, and you'll be talking to the man who does the overhaul work and testing.

Failing that, I can turn you on to the shop I use - I talked him into doing mail-order a couple of years back...

Maybe this will help. Never tried it, but thought i would give it a try if mine ever failed on me.
Rebuild your own alternator - Toyota Forums :: Toyota Nation

Also just IMHO anything that is electrical I don't buy from Autozone. Their alternators, Fuel pumps, coils, distributor caps, and throttle positioning sensors that i have used seem to be subpar. They upgraded the fuel pump in my father's Astro van to a bosch after he changed it 2 times and on the third time with the bosch it works fine now. I get my electrical stuff from NAPA or Advance.

Also i know its a quite a drive from frankfort, but my sister had her lumina's alternator rewound at this shop. 60ish, I'm sure he might be able to get you an alternator rebuild kit if you ask...maybe ship it too. I'll call them later and ask for you. I am quite interested now.

Yea im gunna stop goin to autozone for parts. Would it be better to get one from napa or something or to just get it rewound? Im only 18 and im still goin to school for auto so i dont know much about how to rebuild an alt. At this point id rather put a new one in or get this one rebuilt. whick ever is cheaper

why would you tell them you were offroading?

i got my starter from autozone with a lifetime warranty, it crapped out on me the other day after 2 months, when i took it off it poured out clay. I cleaned it an went to get my free replacement.

I suggest you do that, an spray your new alt with electric parts cleaner after wheelin adventures
