Almost impossible starting, once it does, runs fine?

'89 with the carbed 6. Carb was rebuilt about 2 yrs./30,000 miles ago. Last saturday it was fine. Sunday morning it was impossible to start. Seemed like the choke was stuck. Fuel flow is fine, and after about 10 min. of cranking, it runs like it was flooded for about a minute, then it's absolutely fine. No stalling, hesitation, nothing. It also doesn't matter if the motor's hot or cold, it's really hard starting. Any ideas would be a help.

My brother just had the same problem with hard starts. Then one day it just ended up not starting at all. After a week of troubleshooting we found out it skipped a tooth on the timing chain. Replaced that and it runs and starts like a champ.

Checked out the choke, does everything it's supposed to. Plugs and wires, etc. are good. I started there thinking it was a fowled plug

I had a similar problem w/ '66 mustang. The problem ended up electrical, when I was cranking it it didn't have the "right"? juice for ignition. I had the ah-ha moment when I ran out of juice to crank and last ditch pushed it. Started right up???????
The ingnition switch was funky, I replaced it and it started up every time. May not be your prob but I thought I'd share.

I had a 4 barrel holley on mine 380cfm. It ran horribly and got 6-7MPG I replaced it with an MC2100 within 2 weeks of getting the thing. I'd recommend against the four barrel especially if it's larger than 350cfm.
