Almost finished with my SOA

Finally got down to business last night. Got almost everything down with the SOA I've been planning for the past 7 months. Things that are left are measure for and order rear driveshaft and shocks, replace all hard brake lines, replace front driveshaft u-joints, install traction bar, remove transfer case drop, and install longer center pins on front leaf springs so we can install 1/2" lift blocks to stop the tie rod from hitting the spring. A bunch of little things to get done over the next week or so but the hard work is done. And time for pictures

After

Looks VERY nice.

Which steering setup did you go with? It looks like heims which makes me think it's the MORE kit. I had clearance issues with that kit so if that is what you have make sure your 1/2" block doesn't put the springs into the drag link. I think I ended up using a 2* shim which angled it back for a little more caster and helped with the spacing.

You're correct, thats the MORE kit. We do have interferance of the tie rod and springs but couldn't but the 1/2" block in because the center pin isn't long enough. It looks like we have enough room so that when have the block in there the springs shouldn't hit the drag link. But we'll see once we get the new center pins in.

The other options would be to put the tierod under the knuckles and adjust the caster ... or....

I don't have any better pictures but I ended up mounting the drag link on top of the bracket. I filled in the bracket with a piece of tube and welded it in. I know, it makes it single shear, but it's already single shear on the pitman arm and you can always add a tab on top the bracket to make it double shear:

Thanks for that picture and idea, I'll see how it goes after getting that block in and then figure out where to go from there

I had been wondering how well that MORE kit would work in an SOA application, in respect to clearance of the leafs. Your conversion looks great, and I know you'll be pleased with the results when all the little things finally get worked out.

I'll be doing a SOA on my '91 soon, but I'm waiting on finding a Dana 44 F & R waggy donor Jeep to buy first.

I did a SOA on my wife's '93 YJ, and I used the Rocky Road OTT high steer kit. I know I'll take flak for speaking nice about RR on here, and believe me, I sure had my share of their customer dis-service that is so well known! But, I did like the OTT high steer setup, and it has held up well, with no issues yet.

Here's a pic of her's installed.

The kit came with longer center pins but they are the wrong diameter for our springs. Once we get the right ones in I'll throw up a picture of the new clearances.

You'll be very happy with those axles. Having real hubs and the ability to run true high steer arms and 1 ton TREs is awesome:

Does anybody know an e-brake cable that would work for my passenger side? I've been searching but can't find what I read before. Maybe like an XJ passenger side?

What about an LJ pass side?

I think XJ cables are shorter b/c they come from the middle of the body ... then again they are longer wheelbase.

The LJ cable comes from the middle of the body as well. The parking brake is in the center console. It's a pretty short cable.

Poo.

Well, for what it's worth, I run two pass side cables on mine because my driverside was too short. I'd think most e-brake cables are going to be similar but it may be time to take a drive to a parts yard and do some inspecting.
