Air intake questions

on a 1992 4.0 engine, I am installing an air intake (old airbox is gone, so I can't go by that).

Can someone tell me what the blue hose in this picture connects to? I know it comes from the top of the valve cover to the air intake tube. But what does it go from the tube to? Is it the charcoal canister? If so, do you know which port?

One is a vent for the upper end of the engine. It connects to the valve cover. The other goes to the emmissions/fuel recycling charcoal canister thingy on the driver's side of the firewall...

For my custom air intake I just hooked it up to the charcoal canister hoses that were going to the stock airbox...

Put a pre-filter over that filter or you'll suck in dust. I think the Airaid pre fits that.

He is saying that you might suck dust into your intake. Notice that the tube from the charcoal canister is AFTER the air filter... I havn't heard of this being an issue but he is suggesting you filter the air from the canister before it reaches your intake.

Actually I'm talking of a fine mesh cover over the filter. K&N, Airaid, and all this type filter are prone to suck in fine dust, they are great for letting in gobs of air, but do a poor job of filtering that air. Below is a link to Airaid pre-filters, K&N will make them too, it is well worth the money.

Good site to give you performance options in a very friendly layout . For. 95 the the k/n turns backwards like a u. K/N 57-1521 if I remembered correctly prices are from 200-230 depending on where you buy. Amazon has it on Prime so fast free shipping if you have it for 223. Nice air raid ones also that take up a ill less space but airaid cost about 100-150 on avg.
