Air Conditioning question

I am looking into putting A/C into my 87 YJ. It has an I6 with V belts. Do I need to change any pulley's (alternator) to make this work? If not, what does the belt for the A/C go around? Does anyone have any pics? Thanks!

since you're working from scratch you realy don't "have" to do anything.

You've got your work cut out for you.

When you say "you got your work cut out for you", it kind of scares me. Have you ever done this? I go back and forth on whether or not to do it and I am not sure how involved it is. I would hate to get it, then get part way through and be SOL because I am not a mechanic. I try to do everything myself with my Jeep. Thanks for the reply!

Well bro, your best bet would probably be to cannibalize a jeep in the scrap yard for parts. Mounting the pump and running the lines, mounting the condenser will be the easy part. Mounting the evaporator, running the lines to it, running the new controls for the ac (my stock system is separate from the heating system) will be the hard part. Then you will need to vacuum down the system and add whatever refrigerant you want. Most of the pumps from the years you would want to swap from will take r34, and you will need to change it over to 134a. Which is no big deal really, the properties are very similar, but it is a big headache your in for.

My friend’s girlfriend has a 95 4cyl, we have all the tools and know-how, down to the vacuum pump. We told her to buy a “for sale” sign and buy a jeep with a/c.

Good luck either way bro, mine has a/c, so if you would like any pictures, let me know
