air cleaner help - motorcraft 2150

I got the motorcraft 2150 and I just picked up an air cleaner, 9" air cleaner, with 5 -1/8 throat... but when I put it on the carb, the lip on the bottom isn't providing enough clearance for the port at the top of carb for the float I believe.... it wobbles side to side.
