Aftermarket Gauges

Hey fellas,

I want to put aftermarket gauges in my 93' Jeep. I have been looking at Autometer and Equus gauges but is there another way to do this? I am looking for something in a white face with red LED lighting. I read something about changing the bulbs out behind my stock gauges to a red bulb but I don't know where that post was. Ideas? Suggestions?

Lambo

Just replace them with LED bulbs as mentioned above. After market gauges are normally expensive and there are better mods to do with that money.

I am planning on changing all my gauges to red LED's... Here's the writeup for it. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/l...l#post10232257. There are also replacement bezel's I have seen for the instrument cluster that would pretty easily allow you to mount aftermarket gauges. Here is a link to the gauge specifications and wiring schematic. http://home.sprynet.com/~dale02/misc.htm. I am not sure if you have tried it but I got 3 out of 4 gauges working with sanding the connections but I'm still fighting with the fuel gauge. I'm gonna be pulling it apart for the 3rd time to work on it and add some diaelectric grease on the terminals this time. If you havn't tried it I would highly recommend saving yourself some time and money. Here is a good write-up on that! http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/r...er-how-991307/

Thanks monkeyhouse! I also wanted to add this that I found in another post about gauges... http://www.jeepwhitegauges.com/index-yj.htm. Super cheap inlays for your stock gauges that would turn the faces white like you wanted.

If I'm not mistaken I also have a PDF file of the stock gauge overlays on my home computer. Can open it up in photoshop and do anything you want to them. Add Text, I ages, etc. Then just print cut and install. One of this little things I've been meaning to do for ages but haven't gotten around to yet. If anyone is interested I can try and slap it up on google docs later when I get home

That would be great! I would love to get it! At school we have a mini CNC machine, it's pretty small, the table is only 12in by 6in at most but it's big enough to cut out some guages. I know I'll need to change it to the proper numerical coding for the machine but at least I would have something to go off of.

I plan on going the LED route for the guages. Their fairly cheep, easy to use, and last a long time. The only problem is I have blue LEDs already mounted everywhere in my interior so I want to go with the blue guages but as mentioned the blue is harsh and very bright so I might change color to something easier on the eyes but I am undecided, my favorite color is orange but it's a hard color to come by in LEDs.

Spuznik you know I was thinking that on http://www.superbrightleds.com if you were to get some of the 100 degree 1-3 leds (the cheapy ones) I really don't think that the blue would be overpowering. I wouldn't recommend going with their 360 degree mini towers of 12 smb's squeezed together, you will feel like you are in a nightclub. Just keep the viewing angle very shallow and it wont leak as much light out, giving you the glow effect I would think.

92_Green_YJ, Hope you feel better, no rush to get that PDF if your sick, health comes first over jeep parts...at least in my book.

But I plan on using blue to match the 8 I already have mounted, and another 8 on the way that I'm thinking about mounting today, but I'll figure it out, worst case I'll use the dimmer, or change the dimmer so that it has more range.

Do you have a Gmail account? If not make one and then just double click on the link, sign in, and download, save where you want to, it's about 1MB, havent even opened it up yet. I'm gonna try to get my girl friend to design something since she is really into photography and that sorta stuff.
