affordable way to lift jeep 2" without going body lift route?

I am wondering how I can get 1 to 2" of lift out of my YJ without going with a body lift. I see that some companies sell a 1 1/2" suspension lift but I really dont want to give $500 for that small amount. Any ideas at all? add-a-leaf?

lift schakles, try e-bay or JC Whitney, about $60.00, you can get greaseable bolts for a few bucks more.
I got some 2" lift schckles and have measured, exactly 2" of lift (the shackles are 4" longer than stock, a lot stronger too) but this is the cheap route, changes angles of approach, increases your chances of bending springs, changes your ride. it's all in where you want to spend your money.

Screw the lift shackles. They ruin your approach and departure angle.
The 2" add-a-leaf (AAL) from Rancho works well from what I have seen. They use a full length leaf spring that is added to the spring pack to add 2" of lift to the stock leafs. The short AALs are way stiff and have a tendancy to crack in half after some abuse. From what I remember the full length AAL is about $250-$300 and it includes longer shocks.

Ditto that, I would get the longest AALs you can find like the Ranchos and if you still want a little more lift you could go for some stronger aftermarket shackles like MOREs or make your own but keep the lift from them to under an inch and it should be good.

what i did was to buy some 2" bds lift springs and put them in. alittle more expensive than shackles, but alot less of a pita than add a leafs and a much better ride. besides in the future when you higher (which you will) you can then add shackles and add a leafs. Also Shackles with stock flat sprigs really looks weird and is terriable for approach angles when wheeling.

I have to agree with the rancho 2" AAL (since I have one). the guy who oned my jeep before me added it, and it is nice. I will say with new leaf packs and a rancho AAL it does ride a little harsher than stock though. (not that that matters)

Nothing more needs to be done to the jeep. Just install the leafs and shocks.
You WILL need an angle grinder and 2 c-clamps to disassemble the leaf packs.

I stumbled across this website on this forum, I will have to find a link to the post.

The theory is you could find two sets of these springs and put them on all four corners of your jeep.

The lift guys will have to chime in on this - but I think to decrease the lift from 4" down to say 3" or 2.5" you would have to simply remove one or two of the springs (leafs).

I will see if I can find the other post in this regard.

link to other post

Reading the post, your looking at 2" of lift (via leaf spring) for around $80.00 and some of your own time.

I had a buddy cut me some 3/8" steel and drill holes in it so the Jeep was lifted 2". I then had him weld in some steel blocks to fill in the gap between the shackles. That cost me $20.00. I then went to a local exhaust shop and had him remove and the old shackles (it was because the ones by the gas tank were easier to cut out with a torch and he was experienced at that). I paid him $40.00 to install the new ones. Along with $8.00 for the new bolts and nuts. I have $48.00 parts and labor in a 2" lift.
