Advice on purchase of Jeep . . . . .

Hello All,

I'm new to this particular site but it looks real nice so far

I know when people ask for advice everyone has 2 cents to toss in so please feel free!

I made an offer on a 1990 YJ, 6 cyl., 4" suspension lift, new 33" BFG's, New clutch, Smitty bumpers, etc...

Very nice no rust, 2nd. owner, well maint. & clean. 153K on engine. Whatta think @ $5,500

Sounds like a decent offer, but I'm not the foremost authority on the matter. All I can do is tell you what I ended up with -- '95 Wrangler 4.0L, stock, 91K, good condition, for $6600. I think I had a good deal.

Anywho, good luck with getting the Jeep. They're loads of fun; you'll never regret the decision to get one.

Thanks Bob,

I appreciate to thoughts. I know what you mean about fun. This would be my third Jeep. My everyday ride is a new 2002 Jeep Overland. VERY NICE

Of course the lift and tires add to the value, but you could probably find one with far less miles for that price.
Not that the mileage always tells you too much about the condition of the vehicle (if it's well maintained the engine can last much longer)...

Have the engine and tranny checked thoroughly!

Thanks Max,

I redid my offer to $5,250. I ran a CarFax report. Very intersting. Came back detailed and clean.

Thats not a horrible price.. I found my 89 yj sahara almost 3 years ago, bone stock with 132,000 miles on it, and I thought it was a steal at 7500... And it was at the time.. ran great then, still runs great now, although it doesnt quite look the same.. LOL..

The CJ dash is a totally custom thing, that requires quite a bit of fab work... although I think there are a couple companies out there that make a generic flat dash for yj's.. and yes, mine is all stock plastic, with the exception of the metal tuffy glove box..
