No honning is for 1. deglasing a cyclinder 2. get the right profile on the walls so your rings seat right .
Some machine shops will hone the last couple thou to get the right ring gap .

Sounds like you hydro locked the engine when it was under water. I bet when you tear it down you find a bent connecting rod or a broken piston and bent valves. Engines don't like to compress water and some thing has to give.

pretty sure its not hydrolocked. The top end stayed pretty far out of the water and i drove her most of the way back to camp that day.
