I ended up with a nasty cut on my wrist when my pliers slipped off the tube and my arm crashed into the edge of the tub (where the plastic gas cap housing was removed). I could easily have used 8-10 stitches. If I did it over again, I would have hung a towel around the exposed edges of the sheet metal at the tub.

I've been very happy with mod, though.
HA! Sounds hella familiar! BUT!!!! Went through all that and the the MOD had already been done! I had only had my 95' for a month or so when I read this write-up and had never run my tank empty and refueled it to check the capacity. I was just way to excited to get 5 extra gallons! Would never had thought the PO would think of doing this!

Did this today but the inner hose on mine was only about 6-7 inches long. I just took the whole tube out and threw it away. I could only get about 13.5 gallons before so I'll be looking forward to filling up next time. Whole mod took about 20 min but half of it was taking the stupid tube out

About 2 years ago, before I knew about JeepForum.com, I purchased a new polypropolene 15gal gas tank from JC Whitney for my 1990 4banger. I had my local garage install it for me reusing the old sending unit ans the rest of the parts. What is the chance that a 15gal replacement tank with this mod will get me 20 gallons of gas?

I did this last week while messing with my sending unit. Since my truck has the fuel pump access door mod, I went in the other way; I reached into the tank through the sending unit hole, felt for the offending hose, gave it one good yank, and Presto! 5 more gallons!

well i am new to the forum and i had never heard about this mod before i am so happy it got bumped because i go from my house to college a few times a year and its around 300 miles so not having to fill up ever 175 miles would be nice but i have never put more than 10.5 gal in my tank and i have had it below empty. will this still work on my tank i have a 92 YJ or do i just have a smaller tank?

I believe this works on 91-95 trucks, so you're gravy!
