Ac Recharge 92 Yj

I have a 92 YJ, uses R12. I bought a can. It's hooked up right now but it's not flowing.
Supposed to be hooked to the low side which i'm told is the part with the big hose that goes to the evaporator, i got that right i believe.
If you look at the back of the compressor theres fittings on top and bottom. I'm hooked to the bottom.
On the top high side theres a black cap with a valve inside you can turn. I was told to turn that. It was all the way counterclockwise when i took the black cap off so i turned it all the way clockwise. It's just a shaft that looks like the shaft on an outdoor faucet. Anyway i opened that, the freons hooked to the bottom fitting and i still have the bubbles. it's not flowing.
Anyone done this b4? THX

Before you make a huge mistake are you sure you bought R12? Only a licenced a/c repair tech can even purchase it. Not to mention its expensive. Did you buy this stuff at a parts store? If you mix the wrong stuff in there you are going to have some issues.

I think 1 pount of R-12 is over $100. You probably bought R-134a The fittings are also completely different. If you do actually have R-12 you know the vehicle has to be running with the a/c on. The can has to held upside down.

Second question would be why are you messing with the ac without gauges? If you dont know how many pounds are in the system how do you know how many need to go back in?

i have a set of gauges on the garage floor, you don't need them to add freon. you add till the bubbles go away then stop and don't overfill, that part i know.

That is incorrect. You need to find out how many pounds your sytem is supposed to hold then add accordingly. You can overfill that way. Another thing I would consider is checking all the lines for oil. If the freon is leaking out perhaps the oil went with it

i know about overfilling, it hinders cooling. you stop when the bubbles dissapear. i think it'd be hard to overfill unless you're really careless, the adaptor makes a teensie weensie pinhole in the can.

the oil thing is a valid point i read about leakage. i checked all the lines as good as possible for the telltale signs. but you never know.

When I recharged my car, I had to have the car and AC running. That was an R-134a system. I know if you dont have the right amount of oil in your system, you'll fry your compressor. Big money now. Also, the compressor will not kick on if it's too low on charge.

Sounds like you have the low side charge port right on the suction line.

R-134a recharge bottles have oil in them. Does yours?

your jeep has to be running with your ac on high and make sure your compressor is cycling.if it isnt then there should be two wires running into your ac line right by your sight glass,u can jumper them togather and get it to cycle on.make sure your can of freon is actually punctured and if it still doesnt work then that valve u screwed all the way in back it off a turn or two.if u are seeing bubbles then u should be ok but if its low enough to not let your compressor cycle id advise finding your leak and fixing it and pulling a full vacuum on it.if ya need to pull a vacuum post back and i can tell u how to make a free vacuum pump out of the compressor off a fridge or freezer.

Do you guys know when they first switched over to R-134?

I have a '93 with AC, but I'm not sure if it's the old stuff, or the new.

It also helps to bring it up just off of an idle.
