? about body damage repair cost

Im looking at a '94 I6 5speed YJ with 97K, one owner with a hardtop & ac, $3500. it was rear ended. If I find a used hatch (anyone know the going rate for one?) How hard would it be to straighten out the sill below the hatch? Or would I take it to a body shop ? The owner said he would get it repaire for another $1k. I plan on painting it in the end. everything else seems fine, but I gotta go look at it in daylight. opinions? thanks.

If the rest is in good shape, that looks like a pretty straight-forward repair. A body shop could have it lookin' like new. Pretty low miles and a 4.0L. Sounds like a good deal.

Pay attention to any gasoline smell it might have, based upon where it got hit you want to make sure that the gas tank and hoses are ok, otherwise that will cost more $. If everything else is straight, $3,500 is a fair price.

I found a tailgate for $120 + a new seal & shipping. http://www.trailquest.com/body-parts/yj.shtml Or else find someone parting one out.

Is that sill under the tailgate a single sheet of metal or is it double walled? If I get it I may take it to a body shop to have them pound it out straight.

Looks like the spare took the brunt of that tap .. check the floor for creasing .. plus look at the mounts to see if the body hasn't been moved forwards.

whoa, Im a unibody man! the mounts would be the hockey puck things between the frame and the body, so just look for obvious movment or tears in the metal?

Correct .. just check to see if the body hasn't pushed forward .. I don't think it would have .. but you never know.
