95 YJ brake shoe thickness

Continuing on my journey through the entire braking system of my jeep....

Due to torqued off bleeder valves in the back (shouldn't have had wheaties for breakfast), I'm having to replace both rear wheel cylinders. Decided to go ahead and replace the brake hardware while I was at it, but started thinking if I should replace the shoes and/or drums as well.

Now I know the minimum specs for the drums (stamped right on there), and they're fine....so no replacements yet. I can't find anything in Haynes or Chilton's about what the minimum thickness for the brake shoes are though. Anybody have an idea?

If you are near the rivits they need to be replaced. If you do not have rivits on your shoes then I would say 1/8 and they need to be replaced.

Shoes and drums are cheap. If you are replacing the cylinder you might think about it so that you do not have to go in soon again.

The drums today are not thick enough to grind in most cases, plus new drums are only a couple or a few dollars more than grinding. Our Yjs braking suck because of the back brakes. Might as well keep them as good as possible.
