95 yj ax5 with a nasty clunk

I am fairly new to this forum and have gathered tons of advice from you guys. For that, a much deserved thank you! I am pretty new to the Jeep Game too so I haven't had much to give back yet! Hoping to change that soon...

Here's the issue:

When I am engaging my clutch to re-connect the motor and transmission (mainly in gears 1-3), the jeep jerks forward and "clunks" about 3 to four times and then gears up and drives. This mainly happens at around 1.5-3k RPMS and during a quick clutch engagement. If i baby the hell out of it and ease it back, it generally avoids the clunking noises. This just started to happen out of the blue. No major offroading before hand or any underbody hits. I have done some research and found some tidbits of info on this. Waht i am asking is has anyone else had this issue? If so, what was the diagnosis/fix? I plan on starting with the tranmission mounts to make sure things are aligned and going from there....any advice is appreciative!

I ride a 1995 stock YJ with the 2.5 I4 on 30" tires. No lift or suspension upgrades.

maybe a bad synchro, it's not matching the next gear speed correctly. I say this because its bucking and happens during a quick shift, the bucking is from it trying to match up.

Until it's fixed, you should shift slower and try and match the rpms when up shifting, let them fall to about the next gears correct rpm. And you will need to blip the throttle to match rpms when down shifting, not just riding the clutch out to do it.

Maybe... just maybe, you could even try double clutching to see if that helps, but the time spent doing that may really just be helping match rpms like above.

Syncho -my vote.
