94 yj transfer case problems

hey guys , just wanna say, LUV THIS FORUM.... anyways,

i have an issues when shifting into 4L when im going to go offroading. i can shift into 4H and N, but when i try to shift in 4L, nothing, seems as if its in N. Now the tricky thing about this is its not all the time. sometimes in will snap in, but so far, its been awhile since ive been able to shift it into 4L. seems as if theres a wall blocking me to shift the lever into 4L.

any ideas??? plz help.

Do you have a body lift? Maybe the shifter is hitting the tub near the 4LO position.

Here you can see it gets pretty close, add in the 2 shift boots & things get really cozy in there!

Try the shift linkage underneath. You should be able to move it from 4h to 4l to 2 manually. I know on mine I had to manually take it out of 4 low, I played with it and played with it. See if you can't lube it up or work it into low.

I would try adjusting the shift linkage first, seems like its ever so slightly out of adjustment where you can sometimes get it into 4L.

Just to cover all bases, you are shifting into 4L while crawling at 2-3mph with the transmission in neutral?
