94 YJ Spark PLug Wire routing on Tree?

My check engine light came on last week and I could here spark arching in the motor somewhere. Then I noticed I didn't have a wire tree. Seems when my mechanic swapped out my motor he didn't feel that it was important enough to put back on.

I went to a u-pull it lot and got one. But I havn't a clue as to how to rout the wires back through it correctly.

Anyone have pics, or a diagram for the tree???

I really don't think the layout is all that critical. Just use common sense to keep the wires spread from each other. I've run plenty of engines without all of the original tree in place.

HOWEVER, if you're having audible sparking, I would strongly recommend you replace the wires. that shouldn't be, tree or no tree.

I know it doesn't matter. I'm just Anal. I kept them routed the factory way since I bought the Jeep new in 94. Kinda burns me that my mechanic didn't feel the same way.

I'm going to replace the wires next week. Chances are I'd have to pull them all anyways and use different length wires to run them correctly through the tree.

Your wires are shot. Regardless of whether you have a tree or not wires should not arc anywhere. The tree makes everything neat and tidy. But not absolutely necessary. Your problem lies with the wires themselves. I haven't had a tree for years. Never had a problem. But...what I use is the wire separator's from a GM 3.1, 3.4, or a ford 3.9. Place them along the wire route, and it keeps them all tidy and neat. Any pick and pull and you can find thousands I'm sure.....As far as the original tree...it tends to become brittle after a few years and touch it and it breaks. That is why I got rid of mine......

Look at the motor at night or in a dark garage for arcing. If it is bad it will be a regular light show. At the least you can see where it is arcing.

P.S........when you do change your wires....they come with a little sealed package of Dielectric Grease...USE IT. ONLY on the plug ends of the wires. Not on the cap end. Don't rag me, I've seen the cap end be able to work itself free because of the grease.

I found where it was arching. It was near the head on the number 1 plug. Moved it after I got a replacement tree from the junkyard. It stopped arching but I still need to change all the wires, rotor, and cap. Just want to figure out how the wires go back on the tree from the factory. Again. I'm just being anal and want to preserve the factory look somewhat of the motor.

The wires were not on the tree when I pulled it off at the junkyard, so there wasn't much help there.

Pics? Anyone???

Ok for an emergency repair, but your wires are in bad shape if this happened. Please replace ASAP

Thanks ModFox!

You da Man!

I knew 2 of the wires went over the tree and back under. Just didn't know which 2.

Thanks again!
