GOOD LORD!!!! thank you for the awesome thread. Great work! I think you just inspired me to go ahead and jump into the jeep craze. I have a deal working on one right now, just did a search for some jeep forums, came across this thread after lurking for the past few days, and now I think I am hooked for life. I am proud to say that this is my first post (besides a classified response) and I look forward to many more. Once again AWESOME BUILD!! Can't wait to be in one.

if you plan on repainting it, take it easy on the WD-40 with the rusy bolts! WD was my best friend in taking apart my jeep but when that gets on the body the paint doesnt stick as weel and only a year later im starting to get some surface rust where the WD was on the body

I gotta say, I found this thread the other day and now I am getting ready to take my YJ apart for a rebuild. Thanks for the inspiration. Not sure if I will be thanking you later. I'm pretty green as a mechanic so I'll be figuring things out as I go. I have done some wrenching on my XJ so that experience should help but I've never done anything of this magnitude. My original plan was to patch the floorboard and repaint but I figure I might as well take the tub off, make sure the frame is solid and go over the thing with a fine tooth comb. While I have the body and fenders off I'm gonna go ahead and pull the engine for a rebuild seem like a good time to do it. I do have a lot of friends who are mechanics and friends that can weld and a neighbor who has completed two Yj frame swaps so I have good knowledge close by....

Great thread. Thanks for posting my hopes are high for a similar build (RUST) that my son and I have started. I have pics of the teardown on JEEP #1 and will start a thread once we get a little further on. Any more updates?

Great job. I am getting ready to do the exact same thing to an 87 yj I just picked up. How much por-15 did you end up using?

Just friggin incredible!!! I read all 67 pages while sitting here at work...
That blue is the same color as my 78 FS Cherokee ( I called it electric blue ) I have to say I was wondering about painting my jeep when I get her and then being afraid to take her out wheeling now I know what to do! With all that non-skid you dont have to worry about slipping off. I was wondering if you loose skin when you brush up against it? Nice job man really cool the way you stuck to your guns and completed YOUR jeep. You handled the hecklers with grace. Nice job all the way aoround. You should be proud of yourself. Dont tell anyone but I think I found my Jeep (87 4.2L auto YJ ) ![]() |

Serouisly, I followed your thread from the beginning but I must have missed on your frame issue. So again I am curious.. What happened to your frame?
If it is a mistake or a overlook that was made, let us all learn from the mistake PM me if you don't want to state it here if you would like, but please fill me in. |

True, I believe that it was GM that had to recall a bunch of cars due to bad paint and the fact that, and get this. The cleaning lady was using silicone spray on the office plants. Somehow the silicone wafted from the office and into the factory and ruined paint jobs. |

Yes, I questioned if the repair would hold due to the quanity of rust that you had. So did your repairs hold?
